Here We Go....

So I've been looking at other people's blogs for awhile now and always thought I could never write something interesting and exciting. Or at least, nothing that anyone would ever seriously want to read.

A little about me: school-teacher, college adjunct professor for 9 years, now trying (so far unsuccessful) to get into veterinary school. This is my third year trying and I find out in ~ 2.5 months if there will be a dreaded round 4. God I hope not.

I've always saved living creatures from all sorts of extremes. Floppy-eared bunnies hopping in the middle of the road at night on a cold December evening, to birds, snakes, and other furry creatures that my students seem to bring my way. Afterall, I am the Biology teacher- everyone already thinks I have the answer to everything (so untrue, but flattering) when it comes to animals, or I have to rescue the bird attempting suicide at the end of the hallway flying into the window.

So what is it about these squirrels? My first fuzz-butt "tree-rat" was brought to me several years ago. Ever since, I have been infatuated with squirrels. I've always loved animals, but seriously never gave squirrels much thought, even when they were flat in the middle of the road. I never realized the personalities that they can posses. Much like cats and dogs, but oh so refreshingly different.

I now have that same eastern grey squirrel as a pet. My 3-legged boy, Rocky is possibly the center of my universe, well almost. I'd like to say however, that eastern grey squirrels generally do NOT make good pets, seriously. I'm all for releasing them when they are ready, but obviously Rocky has got some....well, complications. My friends call him the $6 million dollar rodent. I probably have spent close to $3,000 in vet bills on this stupid squirrel, but I don't regret one cent. I also think caring extensively for him renewed my passion for vet med. With 2 degrees in Biology, it's not like I was changing complete directions with my life.

So I figured I'd join in the blogging band-wagon, here I am. As interesting stories from the critters come into my life, or events that are entertaining from one of my 70+ high school kids comes along, I'll share. Even if no one seriously wants to read it.
